.NET is a server-side application framework designed by Microsoft. It was developed to allow programmers to build highly dynamic web applications. It was initially proprietary software, but Microsoft have now released the code into the open-source community.

.Net Core is a software framework used for building cross-plaform programs. I use it for all my development work, other than when building a CMS as Umbraco doesn't yet run on .Net Core technology.
